Eat-to-Live Food Co-op

The Eat To Live food Co-op was not only the first of it’s kind on the South Side of Syracuse.  It was also the first newly constructed building in the neighborhood for over 30 years.  Instead of a purely functional box, mimetic of the more recent warehouse structures dotting the area, the building aligns itself with the historically iconic structures along South Salina Street. Given the modest budget, an inventive slight of hand was necessary to elevate the shopper’s experience from a mere chore, to immerse them in a variety of textures and materials, each employing environmentally friendly techniques, and sculpting the ever present natural light. The co-op, which closed soon after its grand opening in 2013, is now close to re-opening and reestablishing significance in the community.
